It’s a replay of the past for Tony Abbott. A re-making of Back to the Future or Night of the Living Dead. Phillip Ruddock certainly fits the bill, as does Kevin Andrews and let’s not forget the House matriarch, Bronwyn Bishop. Conservative soldiers well and truly past their use-by dates. It’s a sign of the conservative times that so little new blood worthy of support within the Liberal Party – isn’t that a contradiction – that Abbott feels he needs the backing of former Howardites in order to construct some form of ideological fortress around himself. The really sad part of the matter being that Abbott is simply parrotting the Howardian way. Fear & loathing. Thing is though, Howard could pull it off through sheer force of personality. Abbott doesn’t have a personality and completely lacks integrity as he’s already proven. Should prove an interesting contest when the Parliament resumes in February.
