Remember the Birthers? That all-American (only ever in America!) group of Republican fruit-loop types who pretend that protection of the US Constitution is their goal, and they’re not a mob of racists?

Another quiet day at the grindstone led me to research a little more. They – Birthers – have a website! Check it out if you’re up for a hoot. I don’t think I’ve ever viewed a bigger bunch of biased lies since I last read of Elvis being sighted in Fortitude Valley.
It’s this radical, anti-American, militant, right-wing ideology which gives America a bad name in a world where rational people take steps to prove right or wrong on their own auspices, rather than gather together on the internet and shout “FIRE!” Seriously people, do you have that little faith in your establishment – a Republican establishment at that time don’t forget? Do you simply not trust anyone with ‘government’ on their payslip to do what they’re paid to do, in this case, ensure a presidential candidate presents the correct and legitimate credentials?
Clearly, these nut-jobs don’t genuinely have a problem with the candidacy process, else there would have been investigations into Hilary Clinton’s validity in running for President. If they were really genuine, we might have even seen a little news on their investigations into John McCain’s candidacy. But we didn’t. They’re only interested in, and outraged by Barack Obama. As they persist in titling him, Barack Hussein Obama II, or ‘The One’ in a parody of the Matrix character, Neo. I’ve even seen some arguments of late which no longer focus upon forged birth certificates, especially since numerous photoshopped frauds supported by Birthers have floated to the surface of the net, but focus instead on Obama’s legitimacy as a natural born American citizen because his father wasn’t natural born in America. I think that’s really funny because very few American’s can claim to be natural born, just as very few Australians can make that claim. Go back through your genealogy and there’s an immigrant somewhere in the background.
The Birthers are American society at its absolute worst. Their problem with Obama is his skin colour. He’s a black man, or rather coffee-coloured. These people cannot countenance an educated black man running their country. Especially one with a funny name that alludes to his father’s religious beliefs. He even has an Islamic middle name that refers to one of Islam’s revered teachers. Combine those two perceived stains and its little wonder the bigoted in American society can’t have a bar of Obama.
Fear is a terrible thing. Fear of what, I ask? Must be fear of the unknown because there’s bugger all in the Birther movement of any content.

  1. As so often, the sheer ignorant arrogance of amerikan power scares the bejasus out of me, as it has been doing since I began reading newspapers in the 1950s. The only reason BO won was because even the rational wing of the Repugs could no longer countenance what had been done i their name for the previous 8 years. If the nutters continue to hog meeja space i fear that the reasonable right will vacate the field rather than be tainted and it will be the a reprise of the Left’s withdrawal in the 80s.
I am opposed to compulsory voting but, because Nick Minchin agreesand wants to abolish it, I’ll put up with it because there are too many examples of what happens otherwise.
