I’m not one for commenting on, or even taking a great interest in American politics or the left -v- right dichotomy which exists in that country.

I have some acquaintances in the US of A and one in particular, who I met when he was out here, is a blogger and Facebook commenter on issues in his homeland. I often read his linked posts and sometimes leave a comment of my own. He’s an astute, progressively oriented young man. Definitely not easily excited or radical in his political outlook.
He linked to this article in the Yank-O-Sphere this morning. I read through it during a moment of boredom, and found myself mentally shaking my head in amazement at the differentials between our body politick, and ‘theirs’. Surely, we have rampant greenies who protest against civil liberty infractions, and there is a deep-seated under-current of discontent flowing through anglo-celtic Australia in regard to immigrant Australia, and has been for more than a decade now, but our body politick doesn’t go to the lengths that some in the States will.
Consider, almost eight months after Barack Obama was inaugurated, there are still nutjobs attempting to prove the man wasn’t born in Hawaii as his birth certificate states. Even to the extent of forging their evidence from various birth certificate templates and copies from other countries found on the internet. Then there’s the extreme-o-philes who want to claim that Obama may have been born in Hawaii……MAY have been, mind…….but his father wasn’t! As this rational blogger points out, such a view is not only ridiculous, it’s misogynistic. The man’s mother has long US citizen lineage. Does her bloodline and citizenship count for nothing?
Nino Culotta (John O’Grady) thought we were a weird mob……

  1. That was scary. An amerikan cartoonist, Tom Tomorrow, recently did something on BO opponents to SocialistTyrant Health Care and asked the simple question, where are all the people happy with the current arrangement?
Yet for 50 years, following the Dulles brothers decision “to make the amerikan people fear communism despite there being no reason..”, millions of people consistently voted against their own best interests, as they continue to do all over the world.
PJ Keating once said, quoting his mentor Jack Lang, “Always put your money on self interest coz you know that it is trying hard”. Unfortunately he, like most voters, failed to realise, and distinguish, the difference between PERCEIVED self interest and true self interest.
Some people like junk food & cigarettes and possibly some of those really DO think that such things are in their best interests, freedom of choice an’ stuff like that. Unfortunately, there is no legal way to remove them from the electoral roll or the gene pool.
